Back on Track

This blog isn't to show off my mad grammar and spelling skills. This is the way I talk, not the way I usually write.

There was the divorce....then he left the state. The girls felt abandoned. Then 2 years ago Christmas the house burned down. Life was just really beating us down. January 2010, I enrolled the girls at Chester H. Thompson Elementary School in Spanaway, WA. Principal Suzanne Gayda was great and 6th grade teacher Kristina Ried and I are now wonderful friends! But 7th grade was not so hot. It was difficult working with administration when one of the girls was being bullied and sexually harrassed. I found a way to make it work during the school year - enlisting the support of teachers and the district office. It wasn't fun, but my girls stuck it out till the end of the year. They want to continue choir, but we're back to homeschooling next year.

As a single mom with limited resources...of course I'm worried. We could be doing programs for funding like CVA or ORCA, but we're going to go it alone. Why? I'm going to volunteer at Spanaway Lake HS at ASB events like selling beer and hotdogs at Mariner games. That will allow me a budget for a voice coach paid for via ASB. The girls have the following things scheduled next year:

Dhalia: Vivace! Choral Program
Dhalia & Sierra: Choir @Spanaway Junior High, Voice Lessons @Spanaway Lake High School, and volunteering

Me? I'll be a full time student of course. My AA from TCC in Early Childhood Education and my BA from Lesley University in Special Education. I also work part time as a paraeducator in Bethel and Franklin Pierce School Districts. It's going to be a busy year! I also want to make more memories with the girls: Camping, hiking, cycling, walking, swimming, etc.
